How Many Game Apps Does Disney Have
Sometimes, we must hold ourselves accountable. Otherwise, we won't learn and improve.
As a writer, I'm often in a rush to get out the next piece, giving me little time to look back.
However, today's going to work a bit differently. At the start of 2021, I compiled a list of things I hoped Disney would bring back to the parks.
Let's examine the past year to check how many of my wishes Disney granted.
Candlelight Processional
I don't often talk about the Candlelight Processional, as the Nativity story leads to religious conversations.
Since I respect everyone's beliefs, I try not to make anyone uncomfortable.
However, I love everything about EPCOT's Candlelight Processional, and I would feel that way even if I weren't religious.
The celebrity narrators and the Disney choral and orchestral accompaniments turn this into one of the grandest shows each year.
Thankfully, this presentation has returned for 2021, and the holidays at EPCOT are better for it!
Character Meetings
In last year's article, I mentioned that Disney had inched its way to character meetings already by then.
Random cast members would appear in costume at random intervals. They would wave at guests and put on small performances, some of which were interactive.
Later in 2021, Magic Kingdom finally did what we'd all wanted. Princess Fairytale Hall and Town Square Theatre reopened fully.
At that point, many Disney Princesses held court, albeit in socially distant ways. Also, Mickey Mouse started performing his magic act again. And all was right with the world.
Disney Villains After Hours
Alas, this is our first miss of the bunch. As you know, Disney's theme parks have offered after-hours events during the holidays.
Unfortunately, the regular Disney After Hours presentations haven't returned yet, much less this gothic extravaganza.
Ah well. I didn't expect to win all of them. On the plus side, Disneyland recently confirmed the return of Sweethearts' Nite and others.
So, we may witness the triumphant return of this event during the first half of 2022.
Disneyland
YES!!!
On April 30th, the Happiest Place on Earth finally reopened thanks to the prevalence of vaccines and lowered CDC health requirements.
Disney had hoped to open much sooner, like July of 2020. But, unfortunately, the California government wouldn't allow it due to safety standards in place.
Thankfully, since Disneyland reopened, it has operated at full speed and even managed to open a new themed land, Avengers Campus.
This one's a big win!
EPCOT Pavilion Shows
We all took it personally when Disney announced that EPCOT international pavilion performers wouldn't return.
Disney laid off the Matsuriza Taiko drummers and Sergio the Master Juggler, among others.
Other performers received new assignments that didn't square with our expectations of an EPCOT World Showcase visit.
Well, I'm happy to report that the drummers and Sergio have since returned!
They've joined other performers like the Casey's Corner pianist and Yehaa Bob Jackson. Unfortunately, all of them got laid off early in the pandemic.
Now, they're back and entertaining Disney guests again!
Fireworks
Again, I'm happy to report that the answer is yes. This one ties into Walt Disney World's 50th-anniversary celebration.
On October 1st, the actual date that Walt Disney World turned 50, park officials unveiled two new shows.
Both Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom and Harmonious at EPCOT debuted that day…and both of them shoot off fireworks!
Score this round for the good guys!
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
Technically, this one only gets partial credit, but I think that's pedantic. My underlying wish stemmed from a desire for Disney to throw another Halloween party.
That absolutely happened! However, park officials gave the new event a new name.
Disney After Hours Boo Bash counts as either a temporary replacement or spiritual successor to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP).
Park officials changed the name because Boo Bash doesn't include the same amenities as MNSSHOP.
Disney made some alterations to allow for the pandemic. Still, the spirit of the event remains the same.
In fact, Disneyland also managed to bring back its Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween event!
Parades
Technically, the answer to this is yes, although it's not free yet.
During Disney Very Merriest After Hours, Main Street, U.S.A. comes alive for Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.
Historically, Disney has turned these offerings into free parts of Christmas week festivities. That will be the case in 2021 as well.
Starting on December 22nd, Magic Kingdom guests will once again watch afternoon parades.
Then, during the first half of 2022, the Festival of Fantasy Parade will return.
So, this one checks all the boxes as well.
How Did Disney Do?
Honestly, I didn't remember what I had included last year when I planned this article. So, I'm pleasantly surprised by how well Disney has done with returning fare.
By my count, the only thing that legitimately didn't return in any form is Disney Villains After Hours. That's really just a non-holiday version of the Halloween party.
I'm genuinely flabbergasted by how many of my wishes came true. I guess I should ask for one more…
And My Biggest Wish for 2022…
Like many of you, I miss the Disney Dining Plan. Its absence disrupts my park visits and makes me do math while I'm at Disney.
I hate to do math while I'm on vacation, and I say that as a numbers guru whose work gets cited in business publications.
When I'm at Disney, I don't want to think. Without the dining plan, that's what happens, though. I spend too much time debating how much I want to spend on a meal.
When using the dining plan, the math is simple. I use one entitlement for one meal. That's cleaner.
My next Disney trip is roughly a month from today. Unfortunately, I'm skeptical that the dining plan will return in time, leaving me stuck doing math.
Come on, Disney! Hook me up here!
